Overview

Bhagwan Manav Kalyan Samiti (BMKS) is a non-profit, non-governmental civil society organisation based in Mau district of Uttar Pradesh, India. BMKS believes in participatory approaches and practices participatory methodologies for empowering the socially excluded and deprived communities.
The organisation was established in 2000 by a group of social activists after brainstorming and need assessment of Mau district where the people suffered deprivation as seen through the lens of developmental indicators.
BMKS focuses on mobilising the community, educating it and sharing right information with it. This will give socio-economic advantage to the community members, ensure dignified life to them and liberate them from all injustice, vulnerability and marginalisation.
To ensure the above, BMKS has adopted certain strategies to bring in positive changes among socially excluded marginalised community. The organisation is working to empower the community through people participation by developing community-based organisations of women.
Major stakeholders as well as the agent of social change are women and children from deprived community. BMKS brings about social change through women empowerment, health, literacy and livelihood interventions. At presently the organisation is working in all gram panchayats of Ghosi block of Mau district. It has strong faith in ideals of Mother Teresa, Mahatma Gandhi, Swami Vivekanand and Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya.
